From the organizer: To mark the end of Alec Schachner's interactive sound installation WAVE TEST#5: VO BINH NUOC at Mai's Gallery, there will be a closing a reception and a performance by the artist from 6-9 on Thursday the 26th of May.
If you haven't experienced the exhibition yet, the exhibition will also be open to the public on Friday the 20th, Saturday the 21st, and Sunday the 22nd of May, from 1pm to 6pm each day.
For his fifth major installation to date, Saigon—New York based sound artist Alec Schachner presents WAVE TEST #5: VỎ BÌNH NƯỚC, a site-specific installation consisting of plastic water jugs suspended from the ceiling and wired with microphones to generate an interactive sound environment.
In a continuation of his ongoing experimentation with piezo elements (also known as “contact mics,” an elegantly simple form of microphone made from piezo crystals, which pick up physical vibrations and translate them into audio frequencies), Schachner here amplifies and exposes the resonant properties of a familiar, every-day object: the water jug.
Spectators are invited not merely to observe the artwork, but rather, to become active participants in the creation of an immersive sound-scape by striking the jugs or plucking on their strings to excite the piezos and bring the installation to life.
