HCMC Authorities Scrap Plan For Helipad, Tunnels At New Admin. Center

Plans for a helipad and tunnels within HCMC’s new administrative center have been omitted from the latest proposal.

Nguyen Thanh Toan, director of the city’s Department of Architecture and Planning, gave no insight into why the features, which were reported back in August, have been scrapped.

The center, located in the area around the historic People’s Committee Building, bordered by Lê Thánh Tôn, Pasteur, Lý Tự Trọng and Đồng Khởi Streets, will serve as the headquarters for the People’s Committee Council, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

The area’s historic buildings (apparently 213 Đồng Khởi didn’t make the list) such as The People’s Committee will be preserved and new buildings will be erected.

Sadly, like most large-scale projects in HCMC, few details are made public so there’s no way of telling what the final product will look like or exactly what buildings will escape the wrecking ball.
