Beware Of The “Frankennote”

Want to make VND1,000,000 from VND520,000? Sure, you could invest in Vietnam Airlines stock, but as rumors have it, you could make your money work for you by splitting it down the middle, literally.

Vietnamese social media platforms have been abuzz over a scam which involves cutting VND500,000 notes in half and fusing them with those of the VND20,000 variety which are of a similar color.

The above image has been called a fake by some who say it’s a case if Photoshop trickery, while others claim that they have fallen for the scam.

We did some extremely scientific experimentation in our office this morning (we folded the notes since cutting them is, ya know, illegal and all) and found that they match up pretty well.

Whether true or not, it can’t hurt to check your bank notes carefully upon receiving them. At the very least, you’ll avoid those with small tears that end up sitting in your wallet for weeks until you find some other poor soul to pass the burden onto.
