Nothing says safe sex like electronics stores and bikinis.
That is, of course, if you're the employee of an electronics store and you need to explain the half-dozen bikini-clad women standing outside your front door.
According to Thanh Nien, Hanoi's Tran Anh Electronics Supermarket found itself in hot water last week after the store hired women in bikinis to greet its customers. Public reaction to the marketing ploy was less than positive, with critics arguing the gimmick was disrespectful to women.
But according to Tran Anh marketing manager Ngo Thanh Dat, that's not what happened. Instead, Dat claimed, his company enlisted the women to film “sex education videos”. This is why the bikini-clad women were greeting customers, parking motorbikes and holding out doors for local shoppers.
“Young Vietnamese people have not been provided with appropriate sex education...so we want to make a series of sex education videos,” Dat told Thanh Nien.
The marketing manager also accused rival companies of attempting to defame his company. Thanh Nien, however, had no chill. “The manager did not elaborate on the content of the series and in what way the women in bikinis can teach young people about safe sex practices,” wrote the media outlet.
Tran Anh has yet to release its series of sex education videos but if the following clip – filmed by a bystander – is any indication, it will be riveting.
