Hospital in Southern Vietnam Misdiagnoses Male Patient as Pregnant

In the same week that a Hanoian surgeon mistakenly operated on the wrong leg of a patient – and then asked his family to cover the cost of both operations – a hospital in southern Vietnam is making headlines for misdiagnosing a male patient as pregnant.

Last week, a 60-year-old male came to An Giang province’s Hanh Phuc Hospital with hand tremors, reports Thanh Nien. Doctors ordered a blood test for the patient, and the results came back with a surprising prognosis.

“It said that my pregnancy was normal,” the unnamed patient told the news outlet.

Hanh Phuc Hospital was quick to apologize, saying a computer glitch may have been responsible for the misdiagnosis and promising to investigate the incident. According to hospital management, the possible technological error affected the files of up to four patients, all of whom were diagnosed pregnant.

Management officials from Hanh Phuc have vowed to determine the cause of the error and strictly punish those responsible.
