Quang Ninh Province’s administration has approved a feasibility study for a $US349.52 million airport that would serve 2 million passengers per year, according to Vietnam Investment Review.

The 288.38-hectare airport, expected to be completed in two years, would be able to accommodate large aircraft including the Boeing and Airbus A321.

The airport would be built under a BOT (build-operate-transfer) scheme wherein private investors fund the project and recoup their costs by making profits off of its operations. So far, Joinus Vietnam Co. Ltd., Posco E&C and Korea Airports Corporations have shown interest funding the airport.

Development is ramping up in Ha Long Bay with Quang Ninh authorities announcing that in addition to the airport, they are also looking for a US$4 billion investment to build a resort/casino complex.
