VietJet to Offer Direct Flights Between Saigon And Yangon

It will soon be easier for Saigonese to visit Yangon with VietJet announcing it will soon offer direct flights between the southern Vietnamese metropolis and Burma’s commercial capital.

New Agreement Will Bring Lotteria Menu To VietJet Flights

The two-hour-and-15-minute flights along the new route will kick-off on October 2 with a frequency of five return flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, according to The Irrawaddy, citing the airline.

“We are looking forward to making air travel more affordable and enjoyable for the people of Myanmar, who will be able to travel aboard and enjoy our wide regional flight network with amazing pricing and service,” said Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, vice president of VietJet.

Currently, those flying from Saigon to Yangon must transfer to connecting flights in Bangkok or Singapore.

The airline is launching the route under the ASESAN “Open Skies” policy “…an effort to liberalize the commercial aviation industries of Asean’s 10 member states, opening the region to more competition by streamlining regulations and removing red tape across the sector,” wrote the online newspaper.

There’s no word on pricing yet, but it will likely be lower than the current VND5 million for a round trip ticket. Frankly, anything that gets us to restaurants that are “cooler than Brooklyn” and premium, organic fish broths faster is a welcome improvement.
