The Skin I Live In @ ARCH. Café Bar & Rooftop

Ha Minh ventures on a fully immersive solo exhibition. Enter her world, her room, and interact with the pieces of "The Skin I Live In" Exhibition.

Words from the artist

"When I was little, I had a recurring dream. I was in a floating box on its journey to somewhere far away. No one could see me. I watched people pass by under the street light. And so the box I was inside of floated by.

And I dreamed I was alone in my block. And I searched for people but they were nowhere to be found. I looked up and only the moon looked back. So I crunched and made myself small. I screamed as hard as I could but there wasn’t a sound.

This collection I dedicate to myself.
I can speak
I can see
I am human
- I won’t forget again

I learned to speak
to converse
but you wouldn’t listen
so I silenced ( my voice )
small vibrations
that filled up the sound orbs of mine

I’m bringing to ARCH my home, my hope, the skin I live in, the world in my head seeping out realizing a corner of reality. I dare you, partake, live under my skin, immerse yourself in my reality. I’ll be silenced no longer: it’s time you listened to the Sound Orbs of mine."

ARCH. Cafe's 2nd floor will be transformed by the artist herself with painting, sculpture, video, and spoken word performance.

A message from curator

"As Ha Minh revealed her art to us, I waited to ask which fine art university assisted in carving out such a finely tuned multi-dimensional artist. By the end I realised the naivety of the question, some humans are born with incredible capacities.

Not only the incredible capacity to create art which captivates like the lullaby of a snake charmer, but to tell a story which both involves and transcends gender & family.

The capacity of the survivor to transmute suffering, the alchemy of going beyond not only what happened but what once was, as it can never be reassembled just like a broken mirror. What she creates for her future is the uncompromised authentic expression of herself as a human and an artist. "

Ha Minh through her painting, sculpture, video, sound orbs & spoken word has crept through my ears and eyes into my soul. Like all artists whose honesty & talent shock me to tears, she can live there rent free because she shares her story of abuse & rebirth so pure & so true.

The confession of a survivor with the audience as her witness, her marvellous evolution a testament to the fact that - life indeed will go on - in fact she will thrive. You are invited to witness this multidisciplinary artist & story teller ignite the past in flames & glimpse into the future in her first solo exhibition - The Skin I Live in.

We stand with her in the present, born the son of two distinct ethnic minorities, who became the daughter deserving the title of phoenix unlike any other.
