It’s Official: Trump and Kim to Hold 2nd Summit in Hanoi

It has now been officially confirmed that United States President Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un will meet in Hanoi at the end of this month.

Trump confirmed the meeting, which is being held as part of ongoing attempts to remove North Korea’s nuclear threat early this morning, on February 9.

“My representatives have just left North Korea after a very productive meeting and an agreed upon time and date for the second Summit with Kim Jong Un,” Trump shares on Twitter. “It will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam, on February 27 & 28. I look forward to seeing Chairman Kim & advancing the cause of peace!”

According to The New York Times, The United States was interested in holding the meeting in Da Nang, whereas North Korea preferred Hanoi.

The meeting will be the second between Trump and Kim after the pair held a historic meeting in Singapore in June last year. They signed a joint declaration which, among other promises, outlined security guarantees for North Korea, new peaceful relations, and the potential denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Many critics claimed little was gained from the meeting, although Trump said he had diffused the decades-long nuclear standoff and later declared that he and Kim “fell in love.”

According to Trump, this latest meeting will focus on how North Korea had become a "great Economic Powerhouse," rather than a nuclear threat.
