Gustave Lorentz Wines Make Their Vietnamese Debut

A few weeks ago, the Wine Warehouse invited Mr. Pascale Schiele from Gustave Lorentz - one of the most famous producers of wine in Alsace - to present some of their wonderful wines to the Vietnamese market.

The Lorentz family, which has been producing Alsace wines since 1836, now concentrates on maintaining and accentuating the quality and reputation of its Alsace wines which are known throughout the world (available in about 55 countries with an exciting network in the Asia/Pacific region).

Gustave Lorentz is the largest family owned winery in Alsace for qualitative wines and the leading Alsace wine producer in the restaurant trade in France. Their philosophy is to produce some gastronomic Alsace wines which reflect the most faithful expression of the grape varieties, “terroir” and vintages. Gustave Lorentz’s Estates vineyard represent 32 hectares (79 acres), of which 1,5 ha (3,71 acres) are planted on the hills of the Grand Cru Kanzlerberg and 13 ha (29,65 acres) in the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim. They also control another 120 hectares (300 acres) by buying the grapes from contracted vine-growers, almost exclusively based in Bergheim.

The range of the Gustave Lorentz Estate is large and can satisfy international and demanding customers:

Réserve wines: a subtle balance between fineness and structure.

Cuvée Particulière wines: great structure wines with a superb fineness.

Single Vineyard wines: Rotenberg, Burg, Saint-Georges or Schofweg !

Grand Cru wines : Altenberg de Bergheim & Kanzlerberg

Dessert wines : Late harvest and Selection of Noble Rots

Specialities : Crémant d’Alsace White & Rosé, Pinot Noir Rosé, Fleurelle

Here are some of my personal reviews of their wines, which I really enjoyed that evening:

Pairs well with: Grilled seafood

Notes: This beautiful Alsace wine combines the bitterness and delicacy of sylvaner grapes. Medium gold in colour and with a explosion of tropical fruits aromas, the palate is delicate and medium in length, with come citrus fruits and tropical fruits making it a rather elegant wine.
