ROOM 01 is pleased to present its inaugural exhibition, marking the beginning of a curated space dedicated to rigorous and thoughtful presentations of contemporary painting in Vietnam.

The opening exhibition features a significant selection of works by Tran Nguyen Dung (1942–2023), focusing on his practice during the 1990s widely regarded as the peak of his artistic career.

Works from this period articulate a distinct visual language, where Northern Vietnamese cultural memory is restructured through bold chromatic systems, flattened compositions, and symbolic rhythms. Rather than merely depicting everyday life, Tran Nguyen Dung constructs a layered pictorial space in which tradition, ritual, and folk sensibilities converge into a highly personal visual structure.

This time we're hosting a band called Celeste from Lyon, France. The band is combining elements of black metal, sludge and post-hardcore in their music and their live shows are intense both visually and energetically.

Celeste were founded back in 2005 in the local hardcore punk scene of Lyon. Two of the founding members were also playing in an influential screamo band Mihai Edrisch. To date, Celeste have released 6 studio albums and 2 EPs, the last album was released through Nuclear Blast records after the band were signed there in 2021. The band's performance is also featured on Audiotree live channel.

Systems for storing and preserving knowledge appeared in East Asia very early. Many sources show that forms of libraries existed even before the Common Era. Within the flow of cultural exchange among countries sharing classical traditions, how did Vietnam receive and build its own systems for preserving knowledge?

In the program "History of Libraries and Archival Systems in Vietnam", we will explore:

Historical records of book collections in Vietnam
How scholars such as Lê Quý Đôn and Phan Huy Chú cataloged and systematized knowledge
Methods of assigning personnel (custodians) and unique preservation techniques developed to protect books under harsh weather conditions

From the experiences of earlier generations, we will discuss and draw lessons for building, operating, and preserving a modern private library system.

In 1998, she founded and became the Music Director of the Orchestre Symphonique Divertimento, gathering musicians and lecturers from the Île-de-France region. She has conducted numerous large-scale events, including activities associated with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the concert “Les Nouveaux Mondes” at the Philharmonie de Paris.

Lưu Hồng Quang is one of Vietnam’s outstanding young pianists on the international stage, recognized for his strong technique, refined emotion, and deeply expressive performance style. He began his professional training at the Vietnam National Academy of Music under the guidance of Professor Thu Hà Trần, before receiving a full scholarship to study at the Australian Institute of Music and Performing Arts. He later completed his Master’s degree at the University of Montreal under the mentorship of pianist Đặng Thái Sơn, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in New Zealand, continuing to affirm his position among the new generation of talented musicians.

BY THE SHRINE PORTICO is a 3.0 km walking trip over three and a half hours, turning through the pages of Catholic history in Saigon via distinctive churches, families, and saints in the historic areas of Chợ Đũi, Chợ Cầu Ông Lãnh, and Cầu Kho.

Main objective: Discover churches, shrines, and religious congregations with long-standing histories in old Saigon to better understand the Catholic history of this land.
