Police Bust Saigon’s Largest Pirate Disc Operation

Fake DVD and CD vendors around Saigon may see a drop in supplies as Saigon police recently raided the city’s "largest illegal disc production operation".

The crackdown took place last Sunday morning at a shop on To Ngoc Van Street in District 12, reports VnExpress. Upon entering the premises, police uncovered tens of thousands of illegal discs and the machinery – worth millions of US dollars, according to the pirates – used to make them.

According to authorities, the factory was able to churn out about 15,000 DVDs and music CDs per day. Police said they had been investigating the case for several months, though the mastermind of the operation was not at the factory during the bust.

The news source wrote that illegal disc sales remain strong despite similar crackdowns by authorities.
