The Bao Toan Hotel, which will be built in Bac Lieu's main city, features the circular base and neck of a đờn kìm, or moon guitar. Given Bac Lieu's heritage as the birthplace of đờn ca tài tử, or Vietnamese chamber music, the design is fitting.
Construction on the hotel will begin this month and is set to cost roughly VND140 billion (US$6.3 million). Once completed, the Bao Toan will stand 50 meters tall and feature 16 storeys. All floors will be accessible by the đờn kìm's two “strings”, a pair of elevators leading up to the hotel's top-floor observatory and cafe.
Closer to the ground, the Bao Toan Hotel's first five floors will also feature a boat-shaped design, with the upright đờn kìm rising out of the middle.
