Đông Hồ : The sound of colours @ Saigon Outcast

From the organizer: When we talk about Dong Ho paintings, a traditional art of Vietnam, it is easy to recall the familiar images of chickens, pigs, or mice and cats donning natural colors such as red from rocks, white from seashells, and black from bamboo leaf charcoal.

But we can hardly describe the sounds that make Dong Ho paintings unique - those that we hear only at the village. In this special printmaking workshop, you will get to explore the sounds of traditional colours, thanks to an electronic setup developed in collaboration with Fablab Saigon.

Imagine the sound of a hammer crushing rocks, of a chisel carving out woodblocks, a brush spreading colours on an ink pad, of dried luffa rubbing on a fibrous sheet of handmade paper ...

Surprise yourself by learning to identify each of Dong Ho’s five signature colours not only with your visual sense but with your auditory sense as well.

Our program is friendly to both kids and adults. Children will get to play with INGO, a hands-on kit we have developed while their parents will have a chance to make a traditional woodblock print.
