FRANK GOSSNER (VoodooFunk - DE) @ The Observatory

From the organizer: Get your dancing shoes ready because it’s that time of the year again: The West African sound specialist, record-hunter and label owner is back in our city for the third time (the second at The Obs and the first at the new venue) to throw down only the finest, rarest and most foot-moving selections cherry-picked out of his vast vinyl collection.

Armed with 23 years of DJ experience and what is probably the largest and rarest collection of West-African vinyl in the world, Frank Gossner is absolutely specialized in bringing the raw, energized, long-lost sounds of West Africa to the dance floor. Often having first discovered his records while digging through crumbling warehouses in Nigeria or rum-soaked sailor hangouts in Sierra Leone, his collection and the sound he brings is considered so special because of both the power of the music at that time and place in history, and the very inaccessibility and rarity of their distribution in the present.

When he played at the old Obs venue in September last year, he just hit us with track after track of rich, soul-soaked afro funk, beat and disco sounds that fused with our own tropical atmosphere and approach to partying in a way that was nothing short of magic. Having packed a new collection of recently-discovered records in his bag specifically for playing on the bigger & better sound system we now have at our disposal, you can expect an all-night audio safari that will be nothing short of spectacular.

Let’s get wild.
