 With Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, quickly approaching, DIY SAIGON WORKSHOP would like to invite you to an exclusive cultural event. If you are intrigued by this ancient tradition and would like to experience the spirit and customs of the Tết holiday, you don't want to miss this. 

Escape the traffic and the crowds of downtown at our peaceful location where you'll learn about the origins of the holiday and the legends associated with it. You will participate in the fascinating rituals and ceremonies of Tết along with other attendees. This is a great opportunity for you to deepen your knowledge and love of this vibrant country.

THE EVENT:


19:45 - 20:00 Welcoming Celebration

An interesting description of the main traditions of Tết. This fascinating journey will take you through how the date of the holiday is determined and why it's significant, how holiday traditions differ between the North and South and finally, prepare attendees for their participation in the ceremonies and rituals.

20:00 - 20:45 Ceremony & Rituals

- The Ceremony of Kitchen God, Ong Tao.
- The New Year's Eve Ritual, The Giao Thua, the most sacred point of time.
- The Tradition of Honoring Our Ancestors

20:45 - 21:30 Tết Dinner & Traditional Red Envelopes

Enjoy our special Holiday Dinner with many great-tasting, traditional dishes of Tết.

MENU:

1. Steamed Square Cake - Banh Chung: The symbol of Vietnam's Tet Holiday. Banh Chung is a cake made from glutinous rice, mung bean and pork meat, mixed with the best spices and flavors from the traditional Vietnam kitchen.

2. Spring Rolls - Nem: Is a must during Tet's meals. Minced pork mixed with shallots, mushrooms, wood-ear fungi, spices, all wrapped in rice paper and fried in the end. Northern style Nem is served with traditional sauce, cucumbers and green veggies.

3. Caramelized Catfish in Clay Pot - Ca Kho: Catfish slow-cooked for hours in a traditional clay pot with caramel syrup and red chilies. Accompanied with hot rice.

4. Xoi Gac: Steamed sticky rice with special "Gac" fruit. Xoi gac is the favorite by Vietnamese people because of its special red color –the symbol of luck and new achievements for the New Year

5. Dried bamboo shoots soup - Canh mang: Dried bamboo shoots and pork meat ribs takes a few hours to stew and get the best combination of flavors. The result is a warm soup with a unprecedented gentle flavor.

6. Bong Xao: Stir fried crispy pork skin, Bong, cooked with beef, broccoli, mushrooms and carrots.

7. Candied Lotus Seed & Green Bean cake: Delicate small desserts will be served with traditional green tea after dinner.

8. Drinks & Beverages: Beer, mineral bottled water and soft drinks.

The evening will conclude with the most exciting Tết tradition of all ... The giving of Red Envelopes to each participant.

Recommended dress is semi-formal attire and traditional clothing is encouraged in keeping with Vietnamese tradition. New and holiday clothes are thought to bring prosperity and great energy for the new year.
