This September, the Embassy of Israel and Family Medical Practice will once again be joining forces to reach out to one of Vietnam’s poorest areas. Following a successful mission to Quang Binh some years ago, this time we will be traveling to the mountainous region of Kon Plong in the Central Highlands.

Kon Plong is home to some of Vietnam’s most disadvantaged communities, experiencing some of the highest death rates in the country from preventable causes – including a tragically high level of prenatal mortality from home deliveries without midwives. Over 50 km from the nearest medical facilities, the people of Kon Plong have effectively no access to any health care.

From September 11th, we will be transporting our entire team and medical staff to the area to provide medical check-ups, health care advice, and vaccinations for 3,500 households in Kon Plong. We will provide treatment for those suffering from illness and disease, and instruct the local people in basic hygienic practices, from hand washing to tooth brushing.

In addition to this, we will be contributing basic necessities for daily life to these communities – including clothing, educational and cleaning supplies as well as food. We are now reaching out to members of our community to donate items to carry with us to this remote area and personally deliver to the local people. Please consider supporting us in our drive to make a positive difference in the lives of these communities. Your contributions will go a long way to lifting these people out of desperate circumstances.

What We Need

We are asking for a range of household items to present to the people of Kon Plong, including but not limited to:

• Clothing for adults and children (no shoes)
• Dried food, candies, biscuits, rice, salt (no canned food and dairy products)
• Blankets, towels, and pillows
• Children’s toys and games
• Stationery, educational kits and books to promote literacy
• Washing & personal hygiene products and insect repellents

To support our efforts to bring relief to the people of Kon Plong, please bring your contributions to either of our clinics from now until the end of August.
