Movie Night: In the Mood for Love @ Yoko Cafe

From the organizer: Another Wong Kar-Wai wonder – maybe the most famous one – is on the Yoko screen this week. In the mood for Love is a beautiful ode to a side of Hong Kong we tend to miss nowadays – a more complex and humane side.

The romantism that exhales from the scenario is diffused – notably by a captivating soundtrack – throughout all aspects of the film and transforms – at least for a few hours - the image we have of the city.
Indeed, in the 1960s, when the movie plot is set, the vibrancy of the street life was more intense and offered unique inspiration for sensitive directors such as Mr Wong. Since then, Hong-Kong has evolved into one of the most rationalized places on earth ; yet it still holds hidden spatial and temporal pockets of fierce senses-stimuli. Showing In the Mood for Love is an invitation to opening your minds and feelings to the city, to human interactions... (without using virtual reality tools)
About the plot : In 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo-wan (Tony Leung) moves in his new apartment on the same day as his next-door neighbor, Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung), a secretary from a shipping company. Each of them has a spouse who works a lot and often leaves them alone in their rooms. Their lives intersect in the everyday loneliness of meals taken alone and start to bind together on the rhythm of these recurrences..
