A public program of The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre in collaboration with the Oxford Clinical Research Unit and the Centre for Tropical Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City.

Stephen Baker is a Professor of Molecular Microbiology at the University of Oxford and has been working on infectious disease research in Vietnam for almost ten years. During this lecture, which is being recorded as part of the ‘Humans and Animals’ series on BBC World Service, Stephen discusses zoonotic (animals to humans) infections in Vietnam. Specifically, he will describe how Salmonella are transmitted through the food chain and may end up causing series infections in humans that are hyper-susceptible to infection. Stephen will also present how farmers in Dong Thap province used photo-voice techniques to visualize the zoonotic risk they perceive as they raise pigs and poultry in a rural environment.
