BackStories » Vietnam » Victim in Deadly Hoi An Accident Identified as Honeymooning Australian

Well, this sad story just got that much sadder. According to The Age, the victim in last Thursday’s deadly Hoi An traffic accident was 26-year-old nurse, Katie Hirth from Geelong, Australia who was honeymooning in Vietnam with her husband.

Driving separate motorbikes along Hoi An’s typically quiet Dien Bien Phu Street, Hirth was struck by a truck and killed immediately.

After initially running from the scene, the truck driver turned himself in to local police, reported Thanh Nien.

Hirth’s family has traveled to Vietnam to, “support her widower and make arrangements to bring her body home.”

Yet another reminder to never let your guard down when driving your motorbike, no matter how quiet the street may be.
