According to Thanh Nien, the newly installed sleeping pods in Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport have been shut down after only 4 days of operation due to concerns that they were part of a scheme to capitalize on the country’s notoriously poor flight coordination.
Vo Huy Cuong, deputy director of The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, “referred to "some sources of public opinion” which had charged that the sleeping spaces represented a scheme by the Vietnam Airlines Tourism Company (VATC) – which developed the pods – to capitalize on rising flight delays and cancellations,” wrote the paper.
The small rooms are 4sqm, 3m high and include a bed, wardrobe, free water and snacks, telephone and WIFI access.
Single rooms are priced at VND210,000 and doubles VND252,000 for the first 3 hours. With full day rates at VND1.53 million and VND1.83 million, respectively.
So when will the sleep pods reopen?
“If the public gradually accepts this service, we will allow it to be developed,” Cuong told VnExpress.
