On Thursday, naval officers in Nha Trang donned their dress whites, assembled the marching band and celebrated the inauguration of Vietnam's brand-new, state-of-the-art pirate ship.
The vessel, christened Le Quy Don after the 18th-century philosopher and poet, officially went into operation earlier this week after its formal flag-raising ceremony, reports VnExpress. As you may recall, this 67-meter-long vessel was built in Poland and last year set sail for Vietnam with a joint crew of Vietnamese and Polish sailors. Someone then made an epic video about the journey that makes you feel like Jack Sparrow might have been a member of Vietnam's maritime forces.
Now docked at Nha Trang's Naval Academy, the vessel is an odd contradiction: its three 40-meter posts tower high above the water's surface, white sails billowing in the wind, but the old-timey vessel also boasts high-tech devices on deck.
We hope to see this beauty floating around in the bay next time we're in Nha Trang.
