Central Vietnam Engineer Creates Electric Car Made of Bamboo

A Quang Nam engineer is making headlines after creating an electric car made of bamboo.

Vo Tan Tan, the brains behind Hoi An's bamboo bikes, has stepped up his game to make an electric vehicle made almost entirely of bamboo, reports Tuoi Tre.

Thirty-eight-year-old Tan told the news outlet his vehicle took three months to develop and 80% of the invention is made of bamboo; only those parts which could not be made from the wood were substituted with other materials.

Though he's still putting the finishing touches on his car, Tan's vehicle can travel between Hoi An and Da Nang when fully charged and seats up to six adults. Its top speed is 30 kilometers per hour.

Tan is currently seeking permission from Hoi An authorities to transport visitors by car between Da Nang and the tourist city. One local resort manager has already ordered two bamboo cars from Tan.
