A video of people butchering a buffalo in the middle of a road in southern Vietnam has gone viral.
VnExpress reports that the brief video was shot in Binh Duong province after a buffalo wandered onto the road and was killed by a truck. It didn't take long for bystanders to descend on the carcass, taking the animal apart in a traffic lane.
Vehicles can be heard honking repeatedly in the video while container trucks attempt to drive around the impromptu abattoir. Throughout the footage, however, nobody pays much mind to the traffic backing up around them.
Critics blasted the buffalo butchers online, according to Tuoi Tre, saying they should have moved the dead animal to the side of the road before cutting it up. Others mentioned the fact that buffaloes are worth a lot of money, and they were technically stealing from the owner.
The animal belonged to a 50-year-old farmer named Nguyen Thanh Ngoc who arrived at the scene later, only to find the skeletal remains of his buffalo, VnExpress reports.
Some online commentators, however, defended the crowd, saying they helped make it easier to drag the animal off the road by reducing its weight.
This is not the first time a highway robbery has drawn attention from the online community in Vietnam. Last month, a delivery truck caught fire in Binh Dinh province, and locals looted the supermarket goods stored inside after the driver escaped, according to Tuoi Tre.
Meanwhile, in 2013, a truck carrying 1,500 cases of Tiger beer lost control in Bien Hoa, spilling thousands of beer cans onto the road. According to Vietnam News, dozens of locals rushed to the scene to get their fill while the truck driver got stuck with a bill of VND270 million (US$11,894) for the accident.
