A government agency is in hot water after a video recently emerged on social media showing a state-issued vehicle committing a hit-and-run in Hanoi.
According to eyewitnesses, Tuoi Tre reports, the driver slammed into a motorcyclist at approximately 9pm last Saturday in the capital’s Thanh Xuan District. The video, recorded by a commuter, shows the blue-plated Ford Mondeo speeding away after the accident into Hanoi’s dense traffic.
The vehicle managed to escape the crime scene, hitting several other vehicles in the process, and rushed from Nguyen Trai Street to the O Cho Dua Roundabout, where it was stopped by crowded traffic at the red light. Locals were able to capture the inebriated driver and escorted him to Dong Da District’s police station, according to Zing.
Hanoi police told VTC that the driver was identified as Dinh Manh Hung, who was driving under influence when he bumped into another commuter. The 50-year-old is currently on the Central Economic Commission’s payroll. The man admitted to the crime and has agreed to compensate the victims for any damages.
