Vietnamese Man Dead After Slashing Himself Over Plane Ticket

Last Saturday, a Vietnamese man in Dagupan, Philippines killed himself when he was unable to borrow money for a plane ticket home.

The man, identified as Nguyen Tan Lap, was found bleeding heavily in front of the West Central Elementary School at 9:30 a.m.

Christopher Abrahano, Dagupan’s police chief, said Lap had met with fellow Vietnamese, Nguyen Thanh Thi, who runs a business in Dagupan, in the hopes she would lend him money for a plane ticket back to Vietnam.

When Thi said she did not have money, Lap “drew a knife from his pants’ back pocket, slashed his abdomen and then walked away.” The woman quickly called the police and Lap was taken to a nearby hospital where he died of his wounds.

Though both Thi and Lap did not know each other well, they both came from Qui Nhon town, Binh Dinh central city.

Better that we leave the abdomen slicing to the Japanese.
