Saigon : Echoes from 1900 @ The Old Compass Cafe

From the organizer: Join us at The Old Compass Cafe for a special night - Saigon : Echoes from 1900.

A lecture-demonstration on the first recording of Southern Vietnamese music, featuring a love song performed by a female vocalist from Saigon, recently discovered in a French archive of the 1900 Paris World Exposition. The highlight of the night will be a the world-premiere live performance of this newly-found song. 

The sounds from more than a century earlier will be brought to life again by leading Saigonese traditional musicians.

Presenters:
- Huynh Khai, artist (Head of Traditional Music, HCMC Conservatory of Music) is well-known nationwide for composing a series of heart-moving lyrics for Cai luong (reformed theatre) and Don ca tai tu (music of Southern Vietnam)
- Le-Tuyen Nguyen, main speaker (Teaching Fellow, Australian National University School of Music) 
- Mai Phương, vocalist, won a gold medal in The Southern Music Festival 2017 in Binh Duong (Liên hoan đờn ca tài tử)
- Mỹ Tiên, vocalist, won a gold medal in The Southern Music Festival 2017 in Binh Duong (Liên hoan đờn ca tài tử)
