Cine-concert: “Crossing Fences”
An evening of experimental music, sound art and moving images
Featuring musician and sound artist Junichi Usui and visual artist VJ Paki
Curated and produced by Quyen D. Pham
Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 8PM

Salon Saigon is pleased to present “Crossing Fences” – an evening of experimental music, sound art and moving images by two Saigon-based artists: musician and sound artist Junichi Usui and visual artist VJ Paki.

How many fences have been built up to stop human beings from coming together?
Whether those fences are visible or invisible, most of us always have to stand between the choices to overcome them or not?
Is making those choices our own decisions or effected by the environment we are living in?

‘Crossing Fences’ is a search for answers to those questions through experimental music, sound and visual art. Junichi Usui is well-known with his own music vision, in which unique traditional music instruments from South East Asia are being used in a contemporary way to extend what today’s music can do. In this performance, he will bring the audience on an experimental sonic journey with indigenous folk instruments from Vietnam to explore the possibilities of traditional music instruments in a completely different approach. A fusion of contemporary and ancient sounds created by Junichi’s skillful hands on musical intruments and electronic equipment is enhanced by abstract moving images by visual artist VJ Paki. All together weave a sonic and visual carpet made up of thousands of threads of stories throughout the emotional spectrum and human beings’ history that cross geographical, social and cultural fences and connect the past, present and future.
