Workshop - An Introduction to Butoh Dance @ Lang Thang

This workshop provides “basic” Butoh exercises and the opportunity for each dancer to explore their own potential as a free dancer.

Butoh is an expressionist dance form that originated in Japan during WWII. There are many philosophies surrounding Butoh, but the most common themes are that it was a protest dance against strict performance forms such as ballet, traditional Kabuki and Noh Theatre and also the social and political pressure Japan were confronted with. Butoh provides dancers the time and space for creative self-expression, spontaneity and even to explore the more darker emotions such as rage, fear, grief and lust.

Some things cannot be expressed in words, and they are better felt and expressed through the entire body.

Appropriate for anyone who is interested over the age of 16
