The Generous City - Finding Order In Urban Chaos @ The Old Compass Cafe and Bar

The dense urban environments of Vietnamese cities are home to some of the most vibrant streets in the world. Though often bewildering and seemingly chaotic, these neighborhoods have an underlying order that reveal them as ecosystems supporting a type of society that once dominated cities around the world. In many ways more resilient and more sustainable and less isolating than globalized cities, Vietnam's cities hold valuable lessons about urban form that today are more relevant than ever.

Join us for an evening to unlock the systems that make Vietnam's cities so vibrant and surprising with architect Archie Pizzini.

Archie Pizzini, PhD, is an American architect, artist and teacher educated at Rice University (BA Architecture, BFA Painting), the University of Houston (MArch), and RMIT University in Melbourne (PhD Architecture). In his work, art and architecture reinforce each other in design and analysis of architecture and the urban environment. In 2005, following twenty years practicing art and architecture in the U.S., he moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to form HTAP, a fifteen-year design partnership with Hoanh Tran.

He maintains a parallel career as an artist, with exhibitions spanning a thirty-five year career including recent shows of photography in Vietnam, Australia and Japan. He has taught through various universities including the Ho Chi Minh City Architecture University and the RMIT Master of Architecture and Master of Urban Design programs. His writings, photos and architecture have appeared in publications in the U.S., Germany, Thailand, Korea and Vietnam.
