Cliche Records Night @ The Observatory

From the organizer: The Cliché team is flying over from HK to unite with their Saigon-based counterpart and Observatory resident Hibiya Line.

Cliché Records has burst onto the Asian electronic music scene as a force to be reckoned with. With artists ranging from Borrowed Identity to Greymatter, Fantastic Man & San Soda on their roster, this powerhouse based out of Hong Kong can reasonably be labeled as a crew with high standards. Check out the recent review they had on Mixmag!

OCEAN LAM - one of Cliché's most recent signings - has been a prominent figure in HK's underground electronic music scene, playing at a number of key festivals and clubs in the city such as the Secret Island Party, Clockenflap and at OMA - one of our favourite clubs in the city. Her sets are deep, rolling drives into the universes of house & techno that never fail to get people moving.

Joining her on this night is SNEAK PEAK - drum-focused spinner of magic sounds from across the musical spectrum whose sole focus during his sets is to "make you bust it". Listening to one of his sets leaves no doubt as to whether he's going to succeed in doing just that on this night of vastly divergent yet intersecting styles.

Finally, the figure you should all know - or get to know soon - HIBIYA LINE has been on the Cliché bill since last year, and he'll be lending his usual unusual splice of wrong disco, house & more to ensure this night is one to remember.

OCEAN LAM BIO

Twisting her listeners through deep techno sounds to warm house tracks, as dub techno chords, pumping basslines and delicate vocals drift together, Ocean`s music is simple but moody, favoring human feelings over machine-like clicks and pops.

In only a few short years since her 2008 debut, Ocean Lam has positioned herself as one of the leaders in Hong Kong’s electronic music scene. A former resident at Yumla, she has moved on to start two successful and distinctly different monthly nights at the famed Bassment Bar: FoxTrot, an all-female DJ night grounded in fun vibes; and Humdrum Hong Kong House and Techno, hosting international stalwarts including Deetron, Dirt Crew, Dave DK, Glitterbug, I-Robots, Ryan Elliott and Spieltape, to name but a few.

Outside of her own Hong Kong events, Ocean has been the go-to choice to support other international names like Jimpster, Efdemin, Namito, edit:select, Till von Sein, Luke Hess and Marko Fürstenberg. She has had headlining slots at Hong Kong`s biggest music festival, Clockenflap, for three years running, and has been booked for corporate events for global brands such as Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana. Her performances abroad in places like Berlin, Sweden, Beijing and Thailand as well as her recent releases on Beatport have given the world a reason to keep an ear towards Hong Kong’s blossoming electronic underground.

Since 2010 she’s released two singles on Yumla Records, “Weirdos” and “Is All She Wants”, as well as 2013’s “Loosen Up”, released on Typhoon 8 Records. 2014 will see Ocean move on from the Humdrum collective to launch her solo event “Hypnotic”, complementing her semi-regular podcast of the same name.

SNEAK PEAK BIO

Always out and about, local talent Sneak Peak is always on the lookout for something fresh or unexpected. Ethnically diverse at heart, his Audio Engineering skills have lead him to become a meticulous free spirited Dj/Producer. Once a drummer, his musical affinities lean towards rare grooves, whether deep, dark, soulful or funky. Having sneaked himself across Asia as well as North America, this soul childsone and only motive is to make you bust it.
