B-MOVIE is a documentary about music, art and chaos in the Wild West Berlin of the 1980s: the walled-in city which became the creative melting pot for the sub and pop culture, attracting ingenious dilettantes and world famous celebrities alike. It was about living for the moment - the here and now.

With mostly unreleased film footage B-MOVIE is a fast-paced collage of stories from a frenzied but creative decade, from punk to techno, in a time when Berlin was like a B-MOVIE: cheap and trashy, threatened and thrown together, anxious and ambitious, clubbed and caned, stoned and drunk - but very special.

Mark Reeder - a musician from Manchester, England - is 22 when he leaves Joy Division's legendary music scene to come to West Berlin, fascinated by German electronic music. As he delves into the urban jungle of the divided city he works as a record label representative, a roadie, a bouncer, musician, manager, sound engineer and even as an actor. Reeder meets them all - the heroes for a day of which David Bowie once sang.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE ONION CELLAR

You heard it right. An Onion Cellar gathering on the dancefloor!

Looking back though our near-five years of existence (so far), it is clear The Onion Cellar have been utterly fortunate to have had the opportunities gallivanting across a diverse spectrum of spaces (shout-outs to the numerous arts spaces, cinemas, concert venues, festivals, cafés, bars, rooftops, pavements, basements and whathaveyou’s of Hanoi & Saigon – you know who you are).

Even more fortunate is the fact that it is the month of August in the year 2016 and here we are, still finding ourselves forging new alliances and moving into hitherto uncharted territories.

No matter what anyone tells you, there are still whole lifetimes of good music and films and art and things, waiting to be explored and championed and challenged – just as there still exist top folks (and loads at that) who strive to make Vietnam a genuinely exciting place to be in, culturally.

We are thus humble and grateful to join forces, for the first time, with the kind souls and open hearts of Heart Beat, as well as The Observatory (truly a safe haven for all things hedonistic and electronic) to bring you a club-night the likes of which Saigon has rarely seen!

A celebration of a certain Germany city, and its role in our unending fight against mediocrity.

Friday, 9 September
