[Photos] A Day at the Races: Phu Tho Racetrack in the 1960s

During the heyday of old Saigon, District 11's Phu Tho Racetrack was packed on a daily basis.

The 48-hectare horseracing facility, opened in 1932 by Frenchman Jean Duclos, was once among the largest racetracks in Asia. Though it closed for good in 2011, Phu Tho saw hundreds upon hundreds of passengers a day from its inception until 1975 before taking a 14-year hiatus and reopening in 1989.

While the horses are still around, the stadium is no more. Thankfully, Flickr champion manhhai has amassed a collection of images from Phu Tho taken between 1964 and 1969 which capture the popularity of the racetrack during its glory days.
