HCMC To Build 100 More “5-Star” Toilets

HCMC is stepping up its toilet game with plans to add 100 more “5-Star” public lavatories around the city.

A source from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the city is seeking private investment to construct the toilets, following a successful partnership with Sacombank which financed the construction of 10 such facilities over the past year. The Department added that 1,000 such toilets would be needed to fully service the city.

The bank-sponsored toilets, which cost between $37,600 - $47,000 each, were paired with ATMs, but the terms of the deal prohibited Sacombank from putting up advertising.

According to Nguyen Huu Tin, deputy chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, the facilities are equipped with the most advanced sanitary equipment and, “meet regulations on urban landscape beautification, environmental protection, wastewater treatment, lighting, and air ventilation.”

The 5-star label means that the toilets will meet the same standards as those found in 5-star hotels.

The new facilities will be built in public spaces throughout Saigon’s 24 Districts.
