HCMC To Welcome 2015 With Epic Bitexco Fireworks Display

HCMC’s 2015 New Year’s Countdown promises to be pretty epic based on details released at a press conference last week.

The event will be highlighted by a fireworks display that will be launched from the helipad of Bitexco Tower. Though not quite as elaborate as New Year’s displays at Taipei 101 and the Burj Dubai), the show will feature 1,300 fireworks imported from France. In addition, there will be two other fireworks displays on Nguyễn Huệ Street and Tân Hải Long Hotel on Hồ Tùng Mậu Street.

With the theme “40 Springs Of HCMC,” 15 minutes of the show will be even more vibrant with a 3D laser performance on both sides of Saigon’s tallest building.

The entertainment program for the New Year’s Countdown celebration, featuring musical acts will start at 8:30 pm on December 31 and go until late at the stage of 23/9 Park.

To prepare for the fireworks action, the Bitexco Tower will be closed at 9:30pm on New Year’s Eve and many streets around it - Tôn Thất Đạm, Hàm Nghi, Hồ Tùng Mậu, Hải Triều, Ngô Đức Kế and part of Tôn Đức Thắng– will be closed to traffic from 11pm to 12:30pm (not that you’d be able to drive on these streets anyway, given the crowds).

If you’re planning to catch the festivities downtown, park your bike far from the city center as it could take hours to wiggle your way out of the throngs of pedestrians.
