[Photos] Large Fire Rips Through District 4

A large fire in an alley behind the District 4 People’s Committee yesterday morning destroyed eight homes and damaged two others.

Police said that 150 firemen from Districts 1, 4 and 8 battled the blaze that began in a house in alley 360 on Ben Van Don Street at 11:30am, reports Zing.

Emergency crews evacuated hundreds of residents from nearby apartment block Khanh Hoi No 3 and initially had trouble extinguishing the fire due to the alley’s small size and the presence of flammable materials inside the house.

The Ward’s chairwoman told the press that the eight damaged structures housed 51 residents and that local authorities would provide VND5 million to each family whose homes were destroyed and VND2 million for the two households that suffered slight damage.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
