Police to Crack Down on Noisy Pham Ngu Lao Bars

We’re sure nothing will come of this (other than some hush money) but the District 1 People's Committee has set up a joint inspection team address the late night noise from Pham Ngu Lao’s bars.

The inspection comes after residents of neighboring streets such as De Tham and Bui Vien complained about loud music emanating from the plethora of bars in the “backpacker area,” some of which don’t close until 5am.

So far, the inspection team has checked out 47 bars where they measured the sound levels after 11pm. According to VNS, the levels reached 1.27 to 1.41 times (from 70-78 decibels) above the standard.

Authorities have broached the issue with the managers of over 40 bars in the area to make sure their establishments follow local ordinances.
