Slow Internet Warning: AAG Cable to Undergo Maintenance Next Week

The notoriously fragile, 20,000km, Asia American Gateway cable - SE Asia’s main internet connection to the West - will undergo maintenance next week so expect “shaky connections” through March 9, reports Thanh Nien.

The paper said that Vietnamese internet users will have difficulty accessing popular services such as Yahoo and Facebook (oh, the horror!) from March 2 - 9.

Companies are expected to “minimize the problem” by using back-up land-based cables.

The AAG cable has been plagued with problems over the past few years. Last December, the cable suffered a break in the 314km section that connects Hong Kong to Vung Tau and took nearly 2 weeks to fix.
