It seems the development bug has arrived in Nha Trang, as the coastal city is gearing up to build its own flashy new urban and administrative zone west of the now-defunct Nha Trang Airport.
According to VnExpress, the provincial government of Khanh Hoa plans to spend VND4.3 trillion (US$192.8 million) on a new urban zone in Nha Trang's Vinh Thai Commune which will include an administrative center shaped like a bird's nest. Government buildings within the complex will become the hatching eggs of the bird's nest.
Overall, the project is expected to cover 126 hectares, including the 37-hectare administrative center. Its remaining space will be used for commercial housing and office buildings, as well as a place for public functions like festivals and cultural events.
Though it's not official just yet, the government has entered talks with two investment companies, one of which would take charge of site clearance and infrastructure projects in exchange for the land where Nha Trang Airport now sits, while the other would be responsible for the complex's design, receiving the beachside property where the current administrative center sits as payment for its work.
Should the project proceed as planned, an estimated 500-600 households would be required to relocate, according to Zing.
Provincial authorities are taking feedback on the plan until November 20.
