Concert Inspired by Love @ Arts and Literature Center

Love has always been a constant inspiration of humanity, an indispensable part of human life. Love is not only expressed in trust, commitment, desire, and sacrifice for the greater good, but is also contained in betrayal, sadness, and disappointment. Through centuries, countless composers have drawn inspiration from love to create some of their most glorious and profound works.

Love may not conquer all, but it inspires endlessly. When it comes to love, musical style is no longer important, as long as the work captures and expresses the depth of emotion. The theme of love has countless materials for inspiration: it can be passion, the intense desire of youth, unrequitedness, prohibitions, extramarital affairs, and forgiveness between couples; it can also be reverence towards a higher power; or simply the love for one's homeland...

With the theme of love, our concert program will feature works stemming from the experience of love, from sweet romance (G. Fauré: Chanson d'amour), words of love to a spouse (A.P. Borodin: String Quartet No. 2 in D major), the memories that gradually fade, remaining only in the memory of the lover (F. Poulenc: Les Chemins de l'amour; A.L. Webber: Think of me, G. Donizetti: L'amor funesto), to anxious longing (G. Puccini: Un bel dì, vedremo), the grief of separation by fate (G.F. Händel: Lascia ch'io pianga; J. Kim: Like the Wind that met with Lotus), or words of farewells (G. Donizetti: L'amor funesto)...

Furthermore, the love for the scenery of one’s homeland, a rural landscape (J. Hisaishi: A Town With An Ocean View; J. Strauss II: An der schönen blauen Donau) or the respect for Renaissance architects (K. Jenkins: Palladio), or the pain of the musician who wishes to create a perfect work (Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E Minor, op. 64), these will also lift the listeners to the wonderful bliss that goes beyond the intimacy of a couple. Saigon Classical warmly introduces the program "Inspired by Love".
