Saigoneer is seeking inquisitive and self-motivated individuals interested in internships with us. We provide context to local affairs, showcase the best of Saigon's arts and culture scenes, discover the stories behind decades-old street food stalls and delve into the city's fast-paced development through well-researched, informative and up-to-date content for local and international readers alike.

If you love Saigon and would like to share your enthusiasm while exploring other facets of the city, join our eclectic and whimsical Saigoneer family. You’ll have an opportunity to gain a range of practical skills relevant to today’s dynamic media landscape while expanding creative and intellectual interests.

General internship requirements for all positions:

  • 15–20 hours per week for three months.
  • Based in Saigon and available to work in our District 1 office at least two days a week during business hours.
  • English proficiency is a must, Vietnamese proficiency is a plus.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • A personal laptop.
  • All internships are unpaid but a monthly transportation stipend is provided.

Social Media Intern

Social media interns help us develop and implement social media strategies across our brands and channels in line with user trends and preferences. They work closely with the editorial team to effectively disseminate our stories and images while monitoring the effectiveness of various tactics and initiatives.

Skills: Strong written English is necessary, though fluency is not a requirement; familiarity with major social media platforms is essential. These include Facebook (page management and group moderation), Twitter and Instagram. Knowledge of SEO is a plus, but not required.

Design Intern

Saigoneer tells stories via creative visuals in addition to and in coordination with our text. Design interns contribute to the creation of original illustrations and arresting graphics relying on their unique sense of aesthetic.

Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; knowledge of animation is a plus, as is solid knowledge in typography, color and layout. You will create templates for social media channels, animations, short video clips, collages, sketches and illustrations.

Applicants should provide a portfolio of previous projects via personal website or PDF.

Production Intern

Saigoneer’s film and photo production require teamwork. Production interns contribute essential behind-the-scenes assistance including research, conducting interviews, creating scripts and providing technical support and creative input.

Skills: Conversational Vietnamese and English are required; decent writing and research skills are a plus; interest and/or experience in video and photo is a plus.

It is preferred that production interns have a flexible schedule to accommodate shooting trips.

Web Development Intern

To tell the stories Saigoneer readers love requires a powerful and efficient website. Our web development interns contribute to ongoing website improvements and help add new functionalities. They get to play with data and assist with the inception and implementation of future projects.

Skills: For front-end development, proficiency in HTML/CSS is necessary and modern JS tools (REACT) is a plus. For back-end role, PHP coding skills, Joomla, Drupal CMS experience are a plus.

The web-dev internship has flexible hours and work can be done remotely.

Editorial Intern

Saigoneer’s unique voice and perspective come from our diverse writers. Our editorial interns work on researching and writing a variety of stories and have an opportunity to develop their portfolios. Editorial interns pitch original features and collaborate with the editorial team to develop ideas while improving their writing and reporting skills.

Skills: Strong written English is necessary, though fluency is not required; previous writing experience is a plus — this can include university writing projects.
