The Flow of Heritage @ Hôtel des Arts Saigon

Hôtel des Arts Saigon proudly collaborates with Lotus Gallery and Hoa Niên Concept to present the art exhibition "The Flow of Heritage," a celebration of Vietnamese culture. This event is part of MGallery Heritage Days, a global initiative inspired by European Heritage Days. Held each September, the event opens the doors to numerous monuments and sites, allowing visitors to enjoy free access and learn about their shared cultural heritage, while encouraging active involvement in safeguarding and enhancing this heritage for present and future generations. The exhibition beautifully blends art forms, featuring the intricate lacquer paintings, captivate by artist Lại Thanh Dũng from Lotus Gallery, combine with ancient Vietnamese costumes presented by Hoa Niên Concept, evoking the rich heritage of Hue—Vietnam's prosperous ancient capital.

In the elegant setting of Hôtel des Arts Saigon, Lotus Gallery will showcase lacquer artworks by Lại Thanh Dũng, a son of Hue and a dedicated admirer of traditional lacquer art. In recent years, he has infused a fresh perspective into this ancient craft. His featured works are composed of thousands of meticulously carved lines, arranged with precision and intentional design, rather than relying on the randomness of sanding. Lacquer painting is regarded as an essential element of Vietnamese fine arts—not only for its significant artistic advancement but also for its unique materials, techniques, and the extraordinary craftsmanship involved in its creation. Since its beginnings, lacquer art has continuously evolved, reflecting the lives, thoughts, and spirit of the Vietnamese people throughout history.

Complementing the exquisite paintings from Lotus Gallery, Hoa Niên Concept breathes life into "The Flow of Heritage" through a series of ancient attire inspired by the Nguyễn Dynasty, the last royal dynasty of Vietnam, which reigned in Hue—the cultural heart of the country. Founded by a group of passionate young individuals, Hoa Niên Concept preserves this historical legacy by creating garments that honor the traditions of the past while seamlessly incorporating modern aesthetics. In this exhibition, Hoa Niên Concept takes visitors on a journey back in time to the former imperial capital, immersing them in a showcase of ancient attire brought to life through fine stitching, luxurious fabrics, and intricately crafted accessories. From the majestic emperor's robes and the opulent attire of nobility to the stunning Nhật Bình dresses, adorned with vibrant colors and distinctive patterns, each piece recreates a timeless atmosphere filled with nostalgia, deeply rooted in Vietnam’s cultural heritage.

The exhibition "The Flow of Heritage" is a free-entry event, running from September 21, 2024, to September 27, 2024, at Café des Beaux-Arts, located on the ground floor of Hôtel des Arts Saigon.
