Back Events Near Me » Salon Saigon Collection Artist Talk #3: Hoang Duong Cam @ Salon Saigon

From the organizer: Born in 1974, Hoang Duong Cam is one of the most influential artists of the post-Doi-Moi generation in the contemporary Vietnamese art scene.

He was born and grew up in Hanoi where he studied at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts where he graduated in 1996. In 2001 he moved to Saigon where he still lives and works. Defining himself mostly as a conceptual artist, his oeuvre is characterized by a large range of different practices including painting, photography, installation, video and performance art. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, residencies and biennales throughout Asia, Europe and North America.

“I have always been interested in the relationship between the internal and external and history, in general. As my practice develops, my own personal history is becoming more and more important. I would like to unearth and superimpose it upon and in relation to much broader historical references. As an artist, I believe that art can be of great use in helping to explore history. Through the process of art-making, fragments of history and reality can be collated, from which re-imagined and untold images and stories can emerge.”
