“Antigone” is one of outstanding tragedies by Sophocles. By the 21st century, it is still acknowledged that “No one can stop talking about Antigone”. Throughout history, Antigone has been interpreted by many theorists and literary critics from many different perspectives. During this session, participants will have a chance to watch an adaptation of Antigone and discuss two of the most influential readings of this work in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the one by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel in “The Phenomenology of Spirit”, “Philosophy of Right”, “Lectures on Aesthetics”, and the other by Jacques Lacan in Seminar VII “The Ethics of Psychoanalysis”.
