“Về nghe Hát bội” is part of a more expansive project titled SA7GON organized by The Faculty of Journalism and Communication of The University of Social Sciences and Humanities Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (USSH), aiming to “bring Saigon’s arts closer to young generations in a style unique to them.” All proceeds from the event will go to COVID-19 vaccine funds.
The event promises a spectacular showcase of hát bội’s colorful and intricately designed costumes. In addition, audience will have a chance to enjoy three classic excerpts titled: Tạ Ôn Đình chém Khương Linh Tá; Ngao Sò Ốc Hến and Lê Công kỳ án.
There will also be a talk with Meritorious artist Hữu Danh – a prominent figure in the Hát bội industry with more than 40 years of experience as an actor, screenwriter, director and mentor. During the exchange, viewers will be introduced to hát bội’s history and behind-the-scenes stories, as well as the chance to participate in various interactive experiences, such as learning acting techniques, choreography, as well as mask-painting guided by Hát bội masters.
