INTRODUCING THE TOPIC OF THE ACCOMMODATION PROGRAM

"Totem" is a concept associated with the culture of indigenous peoples, symbolizing a belief system, genealogy, or between humans and nature. Traditional "totems" are often considered sacred objects, with connotations of reverence. In the modern world, the concept and perspective of "totem" may be broader and different. The theme "Modern totem" of the residency program within the framework of O AT 2024, aims to consider traditional values ​​in the context of development and changes in modern society.

"Modern totem" can be a symbol The symbol of progress, of other beliefs and desires, can also be a combination of tradition and modernity. The creative residency program "Modern totem/Sacred Objects of the Ages" is an idea introduced by O AT and LANANH FOUNDATION, to explore different concepts of "sacred objects" in art through different methods. new means of expression. This residency program invites artists to explore the idea of ​​sacred objects in contemporary society and reinterpret them in their own unique way. CRITERIA FOR SELECTING ARTISTS IN RESIDENCY This residency program is for Vietnamese artists with fine arts training who wish to explore other modes of expression or experiment with new materials. The program encourages artists to create works with materials found in life (found-objects). The goal of the program is to create works of art that consider/combine traditional and modern elements. The artist's work in the residency program must reflect the values, cultural and social stories of Vietnam. The selected artist is someone who has an open mind and is comfortable communicating with other artists in the program, with the curator, with the organizers and with the community. During their residency, artists are encouraged to hold at least one open studio session to introduce and present their work to the public. CONTENTS OF THE STAYING PROGRAM The selected artist has a period of 03 weeks to stay and create based on the theme of the program and the work content/works proposed by the artist. Artists can submit applications from now until April 20, 2024. Applications include a CV, portfolio, and a proposal of no more than 300 words about ideas for creating works during your stay.

BENEFITS OF RESIDENT ARTISTS:

  • Get a room at a 4* standard hotel in Thao Dien, District 2; a workshop; and a fee of 5 million VND for activities and production of works.
