In a rural village in southern Vietnam during the French colonial period, Trần Văn Sửu lives as a farmer with his wife, Lựu, and their three children. One day, Sửu discovers that Lựu has been having an affair with village elder Hội for many years. During a confrontation, Lựu dies, and Sửu disappears without a trace. Fifteen years later, Sửu returns to the village to find his children...
