On the occasion of the release of the Vietnamese translation of Le Pays de nulle part (Xứ sở vô danh), published by Kim Đồng Publishing House, Campus France Vietnam is pleased to accompany a special conversation with French-Vietnamese writer and journalist Đoan Bùi in HCMC.

The event will feature Associate Professor Dr. Phạm Văn Quang as a guest speaker and will be moderated by writer Mai Anh Đoàn, opening up a space for dialogue around literature and memory, as well as questions of identity, family, and continuity.

Đoan Bùi is an investigative journalist and writer for Le Nouvel Obs. In 2013, she received the Albert Londres Prize for her series of reports on migrants. In her literary work, she explores themes of memory, migration, family, and identity through a voice that is at once sharp, self-deprecating, and deeply emotional.

Beginning with the story of a mother who loses her child when the baby is only fifteen days old, Xứ sở vô danh gradually opens up broader questions about memory, loss, and how people continue to live with what cannot be forgotten. Without shying away from pain, yet never becoming entirely consumed by tragedy, the work weaves together self-deprecating humor and moments of laughter, allowing an intimate story to unfold into wider reflections on family, memory, and absence.

Campus France Vietnam warmly invites you to join this conversation with Đoan Bùi and the invited guests to explore the writing journey behind Xứ sở vô danh, while considering a seemingly simple yet difficult question: what can literature do when language itself appears powerless in the face of loss?
