ECHOING TRIP TG01 | WALKING THROUGH GIÀ LAM 14.11

This trip will introduce some of the most common Buddhist terms and answer fundamental questions such as:

1. Who is the Buddha? Who is a Bodhisattva?
2. What are Mahayana, Theravada, Hinayana, Early Buddhism, Developed Buddhism, and the Khất Sĩ tradition?
3. What are Zen Buddhism, Pure Land Buddhism, and Vajrayana Buddhism? Is Amitabha Buddha different from Shakyamuni Buddha?
4. Why do so many temples have names beginning with Tịnh xá Ngọc...?
5. Why do many temples have names structured as Hưng...Tự?
6. Who is worshipped at Buddhist temples? How can different Buddhist figures be identified through the arrangement and creation of statues?
7. Is Phật giáo Hòa Hảo considered Buddhism?
8. How are the different spaces within a Buddhist temple arranged?
   ...and more.

These questions will be gradually explored and answered during an approximately 60-minute discussion, followed by a walking journey covering around 2.5 km and visiting five temples representing Theravada Buddhism, the Khất Sĩ tradition for both monks and nuns, and Mahayana Buddhism for both monks and nuns.

Time: 7:30AM - 1:30PM, Saturday, November 14, 2026.
Location: Starting from Trung Tâm Monastery, 21 Nguyễn Trung Trực, Bình Lợi Trung Ward, HCMC.
Fee: VND 650.000, including coffee, a light breakfast, vegetarian lunch, temple offerings, guided activities, and materials.

WALKING THROUGH GIÀ LAM is a five-hour field trip exploring the spaces of Buddhist monastic life. The journey offers an introduction to Buddhist traditions in Nam Kỳ through temples and monasteries in the former Gia Định area, now Gò Vấp, while answering fundamental questions about Buddhism and explaining how to distinguish temples and tịnh xá belonging to different Buddhist traditions.

The Già-Lam sites visited during the program include: Tịnh Xá Trung Tâm, Từ Quang Tự, Tịnh Xá Ngọc Phương, Châu An Tự, and Quảng Hương Già Lam.
