THROUGH THE LAND OF CHURCHES is a 3 km walking trip exploring long-established Catholic neighborhoods along both banks of the Thị Nghè Canal.

Looking out over rạch Bà Nghè, the pale water stretches like a sheet of silk.
Looking toward giồng Ông Tố, dense green trees spread like indigo leaves.

Thị Nghè began as a natural canal and later became a long-established settlement of the former Gia Định region. Its old market neighborhood was deeply shaped by river culture, serving both water and land trade while connecting Sài Gòn and Gia Định.

On the left bank of the canal, Thị Nghè was also one of the earliest parishes of the Apostolic Vicariate of Western Cochinchina, established in 1790, and retains traces of many missionaries and Catholic martyrs. On the other side, not far from the right bank of Thị Nghè, lies a large Catholic area with several important religious sites, including Tu viện Dòng Thánh Phaolô thành Chartres, Đại chủng viện Thánh Giuse, Trung tâm mục vụ Tổng Giáo phận Sài Gòn, and Đan viện Cát Minh. These two Catholic areas carry stories of religious faith and devotion, together with distinctive and fascinating elements of Catholic architecture and art.

Time: 7:45AM - 1:30PM, Sunday, November 15, 2026.
Location: Saigon Ward & Thạnh Mỹ Tây Ward, HCMC.
Fee: VND 750,000, including coffee, breakfast, lunch, charitable contribution, electric cart/Grab transportation during the journey, guide service, and materials.

Main objectives:

• Explore the history of Catholicism in Sài Gòn - Gia Định and learn about the meanings behind religious symbols found in Catholic churches through visits to Nhà Nguyện Đan Viện Cát Minh, Trung Tâm Mục Vụ TGPSG, Đại chủng viện Thánh Giuse, Nhà truyền thống Dòng Phao Lô, Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Thị Nghè, and Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Mông Triệu.
• Trace the history of the Thị Nghè settlement, Chợ Thị Nghè, and related landmarks.

Itinerary:

Metro Nguyễn Siêu Parking Lot --> Breakfast at SGC --> Coffee --> Nhà nguyện Đan Viện Cát Minh --> Đại chủng viện Thánh Giuse, Tổng giáo phận SG --> Tu viện Dòng thánh Phaolô --> Trường Trưng Vương / Trường Võ Trường Toản --> Thị Nghè Church / Mông Triệu Church --> Lunch at Le Petit Resto.

• Cancellation more than 48 hours in advance: 100% refund.
• Cancellation 24-48 hours in advance: 50% refund.

Policy for children:

• Children under 10 accompanied by a parent or guardian: 50% of the adult fee.
• Children aged 10 to under 16: 75% of the adult fee.
• Participants aged 16 and above: full adult fee.
